Catherine Jones

Catherine graduated from WSU with a BS in Horticulture having majored in Viticulture and Enology. She is now a graduate student in Soil Science at WSU’s Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (IAREC) in Prosser, WA. Her project is titled "Yeast Available Nitrogen (YAN) in Wine Grapes with Post Veraison Foliar Nitrogen Applications." The intent of the project is to increase the amount of nitrogen compounds in the grapes that the yeasts can use during fermentation and to determine the impact on the development of flavor compounds. Her ambition, and the project’s goal is to help growers and winemakers produce better products.

Tara Sistrunk   

Tara is maintaining a 3.6 GPA at WSU while pursuing a BS degree in Organic Agriculture with a minor in Soil Science. She is active in the Sustainable Agriculture Club and educates the WSU community about the latest techniques and technologies in the industry. Her dream is to own and manage a sustainable organic farm and winery here in the great Northwest.

 

 

 

Beth Mattiessen

Prior to attending culinary school at the Seattle Culinary Academy, Mary had successful careers in theater production and arts administration. But she realized she was pushing paper and no longer creating art. So she followed her love of baking to culinary school, where she became the fourth person in the history of the Specialty Desserts and Breads program to earn a perfect score on the final project. During this time, she attended a wood-fired oven bread baking class at Quillisascut Farm School, where she met the owner of the Columbia City Bakery. Shortly after, Mary was hired full time and soon became the afternoon lead in the bread department. After a year and a half of mixing, shaping and baking bread, Mary was able to switch her focus, and now works full time in the pastry department, still at Columbia City Bakery. She’s grateful to Les Dames for the ability to complete her education and looks forward to pursuing pastry and culinary arts well into the future.
